Who we are:

MasterClass is transforming online education by enabling anyone in the world to learn from the very best.  We are deconstructing what makes an actor able to cry on demand, how an athlete defies gravity, and what it takes to write a bestseller. Our online learning content is available to students anywhere, anytime, which supports our mission to ignite greatness in others.

We are a quickly growing VC-funded startup based in San Francisco, with additional offices in Los Angeles.  We have created online classes taught by famous instructors: Gordon Ramsay, Serena Williams, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sara Blakely, David Sedaris, Bobbi Brown, Timbaland, Anna Wintour, and many more to come.

Since launching in 2015, we have been growing our team. Apply now to find out more about what we are doing behind the scenes.

What we are looking for:

  • A results-driven writer who can help with the concept development and copywriting for an ongoing series of compelling, story-driven videos for distribution on performance channels.
  • A curious writer who cares deeply about the effectiveness of their writing, inspiring narratives, clever hooks and can embrace an iterative process of refining concepts based on performance data.
  • Experience in many forms and mediums, and someone who is equally excited to write a strong headline, a long-form piece, or a social media blurb, without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Ability to show exceptional craftsmanship and shift between any writing style and tonal nuance suited for the subjects and in context of medium and audience.
  • Immaculate attention to detail; comfort taking direction from multiple sources and working against tight deadlines.
  • Great instincts in anticipating the needs of the team and working to get ahead of them

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Concept and write copy for story-rich, performance marketing video assets.  Synthesize + break down  longform scripts into a series of compelling, short takeaways
  • Work alongside editors to build a library of instructor soundbites that support various marketing team initiatives: brand beats, cultural moments, universal themes, paid social ads
  • Watch down classes and surface succinct learning moments that are engaging, inspiring, and offer practical wisdom that users can implement into their daily lives as well as exemplify the emotional benefits our brand delivers on: growth, inspiration and discovery.  Deliver compelling, inspiring writing across a wide range of brand experiences, marketing channels, and content.
  • Concept and write copy for performance marketing videos with the ultimate goal of conversion/acquisition
  • Work closely with producers to set priorities, achieve deadlines, and allocate resources
  • Be the steward of the MasterClass voice and prioritize the quality of work, above all

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years experience in copywriting, advertising, or content marketing
  • Knowledge of best practices across performance marketing channels
  • Mix of agency and in-house experience is a plus
  • Excellent short-form and long-form writing skills across a range of voices and tones
  • Solid understanding of how to ignite affinity, conversation, and engagement across channels
  • Clear understanding of and point of view on brand voice, tone, and style
  • Master collaborator with people from different creative disciplines and teams
  • Proven track record in product, brand, and campaign work
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with creating clear expectations with stakeholders
  • Excellent grammar, editing, and proofreading capabilities
  • Works full-time in our San Francisco office (work from home during shelter in place)
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Experience in or passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and allyship and the ability to use those lenses to craft copy that is accessible to a diverse audience
