Job Description

Key Responsibilities May Include:

  • Design, orchestrate, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure, working with engineers to automate processes and improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Innovation Squads, Product Success, and other teams to maintain fast, reliable, and resilient CI/CD pipelines, empowering engineers to self-service their infrastructure needs.
  • Support the development, testing, and maintenance of disaster recovery scenarios to ensure system availability and business continuity.
  • Develop and deploy automated tools that enhance the developer experience, simplifying infrastructure management and deployment processes.
  • Monitor performance, capacity, and availability of systems and infrastructure, working cross-functionally to troubleshoot and resolve platform-related issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, ensuring it is fit for use in design reviews, incident response, and support processes.
  • Ensure best practices in cloud security, governance, and compliance are implemented across all cloud platform services.
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging cloud technologies and trends, applying knowledge to continuously improve the scalability and performance of cloud platforms.

Position Purpose

The Cloud Platform Engineering Principal - Platforms is a technical management position with responsibility for influencing impactful changes at the very edge of available technology.

The Cloud Platform Engineering Principal - Platforms will work closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to understand how the cloud platform fits in the global picture and how to harmonize technology platforms both inside the technology organisation and across the global supply chain and manufacturing business.

This role will manage all non native workloads in the cloud and optimise them and the platform they sit on. This role will ensure that compute services run effectively and in an automated fashion.

 

Major/Key Accountabilities

  •         Enable best practice in cloud engineering and inspire group goals for optimisation and compliance.
  • ·       Partner and align with both the SRE Lead, DevOps, Solutions Engineering Lead, , Cloud Service Delivery Lead and FinOps Lead to ensure consistency and harmony through the team leads at a functional level.
  • ·       Responsible for ensuring platform engineering and its libraries move forward.
  • ·       Be a role model for engineering globally.
  • ·       Design, develop, provision and maintain secure, scalable and resilient infrastructure using an IaC approach
  • ·       Work with Innovation Squads, Product Success Team and other teams to optimise CI/CD processes: robust testing, security scanning, load testing, container orchestration; providing functionality, services and systems that empower engineers to self-  service on infrastructure needs
  • ·       Implementation Disaster Recovery & High Availability processes in line with business needs & requirements 
  • ·       Develop and deploy automated tooling that betters developer experience
  • ·       Monitor performance, capacity, and availability of systems and infrastructure, collaborating cross-functionally to troubleshoot any platform-related issues
  • ·       Support the development and testing of disaster recovery scenarios to ensure high availability
  • ·       Support capability development of team members through mentorship
  • ·       Keep up to date with the latest trends and developments in cloud computing and identify opportunities to leverage new technologies and services to improve organizational infrastructure.

 

Experience:

         Significant previous experience in an architecture practice or group.

         5-10+ years’ experience designing technology platforms

         Proven success in improving the customer experience.

         Experience working within a matrix structure.

         Demonstrable change experience in platform architecture

 

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

Relevant industry standard architecture and cloud certification

Desirable Qualifications

·       Cloud higher Architecture certifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field, Masters preferred or equivalent combination of education/experience.

 

                Skills and Knowledge

  • ·       Architecture - Understanding and ownership of the various technical components, frameworks and guidance for building and using the platform. Impact assess changes to the platform to support new business needs. Communicate the platform to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ensure security thinking is embedded across the platform and considered early on in the architecture thinking when delivering new capabilities.
  • ·       Design - Understanding and use of event-based design, object-oriented design, functional design, multi-tenant design, domain driven design – and knowing which design approach is best suited for the problem and abstraction to solve complex problems. Ability to design at both the high level (the forest) and the low level (the tree); and include understanding of current design approaches used “in the field”, and when they are appropriate to the use cases relevant to the platform being built.
  • ·       Tooling - Use of well-established tools such as databases and Structured Query Language (SQL), and new leading-edge tools such as Kubernetes and the eco-system of tools around a particular language or programming environment with continuous research and learning of emerging new tools in a rapidly changing computing landscape.
  • ·       Systems Thinking - Thinking abstractly to incorporate multiple perspectives; work within a space where the boundary or scope of problem or system may be “fuzzy”; understand diverse operational contexts of the system; identify inter- and intrarelationships and dependencies; understand complex system behaviour; and reliably predict the impact of change to the system.
  • ·       Cloud Platforms - Ability to navigate cloud platforms such as AWS and use them effectively as the technical landscape for building Brambles-specific platforms (both multi-tenant and purely internal). The platforms built within Brambles Digital need to be "cloud-native" and run securely, effectively and correctly at scale.
