Job Description

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving continuous growth, market share and managing client expectations in our NZ lighting and Smart Controls market. You will be at the forefront of identifying new business opportunities, building and nurturing strong client relationships, and achieving sales targets.

This includes spearheading all commercial engagements, including but not limited to Roadway, Specification and Infrastructure.

You will be responsible for the growth and development of new business by engaging of new clients through referrals, cold calling and different innovative strategies. This position is critical to ensure the continued growth and success of the organisation but also an opportunity to create genuine partnerships with future clients.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Lighting sales market
  • Relevant industry experience and sound knowledge
  • Strong understanding of lighting controls, driver technology, and technical characteristics in lighting
  • Unlimited working rights in New Zealand

Responsibilities

  • Identify, track, and secure project opportunities to achieve quarterly sales targets.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, councils, specifiers, and end users to make Schreder the preferred choice.
  • Manage CRM, keeping accurate records of customer interactions and opportunities.
  • Drive demand generation and new business development to support company growth.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate, client-focused sales documents addressing customer needs.
  • Engage effectively with senior decision-makers, including CEOs and Managing Directors.
  • Support key contractors through channel partners, developing solutions for long-term growth.
  • Prepare tenders, quotations, and maintain high service levels with all customers.
  • Implement sales and marketing strategies to maximise portfolio growth.
  • Execute initiatives from the Commercial Manager to drive product and sales growth.
  • Expand specification and sales opportunities for sustainable, profitable growth.
  • Travel regionally and conduct occasional evening lighting audits as required.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Proven ability to close deals and negotiate effectively.
  • Strong client relationship management and business development skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication for engaging clients and teams.
  • Skilled at identifying and capitalising on new business opportunities.
  • Proficient in analysing market trends and data to inform strategy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing market conditions and client needs.
  • Knowledge of the New Zealand market, key players, and industry trends.
  • Expertise in the lighting industry, including roadway, urban decorative, smart city applications, and smart controls.
  • Proficient in CRM software and familiar with modern sales methodologies.
  • Basic technical understanding of outdoor lighting solutions.
  • Awareness of relevant industry regulations and standards.
