The future of aerospace and defense starts here.

Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands.

Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team. A team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

Our propulsion systems rely on tightly integrated avionics—including sensors, actuators, controllers, and instrumentation—to ensure precise operation and mission success. As an Avionics Specialist, you will collaborate with engineering and operations teams to build, assemble, and test avionics hardware for flight and test applications. Your work will directly support the reliability, safety, and readiness of engine electrical systems that are critical to defense and aerospace missions. Attention to detail, adherence to standards, and a commitment to quality are essential in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, assemble, and test avionics hardware, including instrumentation, actuators, wire harnesses, sensors, and engine control systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnosis, and root-cause analysis on electrical and electronic systems; recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Execute test procedures, document results, and maintain detailed build and inspection records in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Perform precision assembly of high-tolerance electro-mechanical components and sub-systems.
  • Ensure all builds comply with applicable aerospace and defense standards (e.g., J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 and MIL-STD requirements).
  • Collaborate with design engineers to provide feedback for manufacturability, assembly improvements, and design validation.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant work environment following ESD, FOD, and cleanroom protocols as required.

Qualifications:

  • High-school diploma
  • 2+ years of experience assembling and testing avionics or electronic hardware.
  • Working knowledge of digital and analog circuits, sensors, and control systems.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting electrical systems, including use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with electrical builds, wire harnessing, and soldering to aerospace standards.
  • Experience working with high-precision and tight-tolerance
  • Current or prior J-STD-001 certification (or equivalent).

Desired Experience:

  • Familiarity with IC circuits, PCB design, and electrical schematic interpretation.
  • Experience working to and meeting J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, and IPC/WHMA-A-620 industry standards
  • Experience designing, fabricating, and using test fixtures and custom test setups.
  • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assemblies and actuated systems.
  • Previous experience in the aerospace or defense sector, with exposure to relevant quality and documentation systems (e.g., AS9100).
  • Proficiency in use of standard hand tools and power tools for assembly and testing.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management and revision control

Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $33.00 - $43.00 per hour, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range for this role is intentionally wide as we are evaluating individuals based on their unique experience and abilities to fit our needs. Most importantly, we are excited to meet you, and see if you are a great fit for our team. What we can’t quantify for you are the exciting challenges, supportive team, and amazing culture we enjoy.
