Associate Principal Wintel Engineer

What success looks like in this role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced (6 - 8 years) Senior Windows Engineer to oversee and manage the operational health, performance, and security of our on-premises IT infrastructure for delivery of services securely to banks/financial services. The ideal candidate will take ownership (install, manage, monitor and patch) of a diverse set of systems, including Dell/Lenovo Servers, Nutanix, Hyper-V/VWWARE virtual machines, SCCM, Exchange 2016 and 2019, Active Directory (AD), Okta, backup technologies such as EMC Networker.

You will have a very strong understanding of platform security and ongoing ensuring ongoing compliance.

Additionally, the role demands adherence to ITIL best practices and delivery to service levels to ensure operational excellence.

You will provide technical leadership and guidance to a small team of 4-6 people to help them follow processes, escalate and solve issues.

You must be proactive, have strong automation and scripting abilities as well as a proven experience in thoroughly documenting processes and procedures that can be re-used by others.

There is an after-hours and on call responsibility as part of this role.

You will be successful in this role if you have:

Technical Leadership:

Lead a team of engineers in the design, implementation, and maintenance of on-premises infrastructure. o Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members to foster skill development and knowledge sharing.
Act as the point of escalation for complex technical issues.
Prioritize and manage workload.
Infrastructure Management:
Manage and maintain Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure.
Oversee Hyper-V/VMWARE environments, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
Administer Exchange servers, ensuring reliable email services and security. o Manage and monitor Active Directory and Okta, including user authentication, group policy, and security configurations.
Manage incidents, changes and problems through Jira.
Generic Infrastructure Management:
Basic understanding of Linux platform, Centrify and Satellite for managing Linux OS Patching
Understanding of functionality of LAN, WAN, zones of networks, firewalls and secured third party connectivity
Resource management (within team and systems) ·
Monitoring and Optimization:
Implement and maintain robust monitoring solutions to ensure infrastructure health and performance.
Proactively identify and resolve potential system bottlenecks or vulnerabilities.
Patching and Upgrades:
Develop and execute patch management strategies for all Windows-based systems and applications.
Plan and perform system upgrades with minimal disruption to business operations.
Security and Compliance:
Ensure the infrastructure complies with organizational and regulatory security standards.
Conduct regular security assessments and implement corrective measures as required.
Mitigation of reported vulnerabilities o Understanding of Syslog, SIEM, LogRhythm or similar tools.
Process and Documentation:

Adhere to ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management. Maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures.
Proactively contributes to enhancements, innovation and automation, thereby improving the business value and quality of the IT platform overall and operational efficiency.
Support change by provisioning new VMs, making changes to configurations, decommissioning systems and components in accordance with the change management processes to meet project deadlines.
Contribute to improvement of operational processes through process redesign, improved exception handling and automation.
Manage deployments into UAT and production environments.

Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with other IT teams, including network, application, and security teams, to align infrastructure services with business requirements.
Provide regular updates to stakeholders on system performance and project progress.
Skills and Knowledge:

Proven experience designing, deploying, managing and supporting on-premises infrastructure platforms including Nutanix, VMware & Hyper-V with a security focused approach.

Experience with Datacentre migration planning and execution.

Experienced with IAM using Active Directory and preferably OKTA or similar.

Experience supporting and managing Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint

Experience with Vulnerability Management reporting & remediation using tools including SCCM,

Satellite and Qualys.

Experience in developing and enhancing monitoring of key servers, services, and processes to

ensure proactive alerting and remediation through products such as SolarWinds.

Experience with developing complex PowerShell scripts

Experience with managing DNS, NTP, SFTP, FTP Certificate infrastructure and other core

infrastructure services

Solid understanding of core networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, firewalls.

Desirable to have experience with Event and notification platforms such as SEQ, Splunk.

Ability to clearly articulate issues and solutions to both engineers and management, provide clear

options and recommendations.

Must show initiative, be driven, can forward plan and think bigger picture.

Must have excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
