The Role

In its unique AI-based approach to risk selection and pricing, Cowbell’s underwriting platform, powered by Cowbell Factors, compresses the insurance process from submission to issue to less than 5 minutes.

Founded in 2019 and based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Cowbell has rapidly grown, now operating across the U.S., Canada, U.K., and India. What you will do:

  • Financial Record Keeping: Maintain and update accounting records, ensure accuracy and completeness of financial transactions.
  • Accounts Payable: Handle incoming bills and invoices and process corresponding payments. Reconcile vendor statements.
  • Accounts Receivable: Application of payments: Work closely with U.S.-based team to apply incoming individual and bulk premium payments to the associated insurance policies 
  • Employee Expenses: Assist with reconciling vendor statements and assist with the corporate credit card transaction approval and processing
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Keep relevant balance sheet accounts clean and up-to-date. Perform regular reconciliations for accuracy.
  • Month-End and Year-End Closes: Assist with applicable closing processes, including accruals and adjustment journal entries. 
  • Process Improvement and Documentation: Continuously enhance financial processes and controls. Document procedures and best practices.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed by participating in educational opportunities, reading industry publications, and networking. Engage with professional organizations to expand your knowledge base.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the Accounting and Finance Team.

What Cowbell needs from you:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are a MUST
  • Detail-oriented is a MUST
  • Flexible and open to change, innovation, and new information
  • High level of organization and a willingness to problem-solve
  • Sense of urgency and mission-driven and must know how to manage pressure.
  • Prior experience with Netsuite (or similar accounting system) and AP workflow solution software preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
