AI / ML Engineer

We are looking for an AI/ML Engineer to join our India team. This position will play a key role in scaling AI Agents at Cockroach Labs and will also own a variety of classical ML projects. 

AI adoption is increasing rapidly at Cockroach Labs and there is a need for a standard set of tools and frameworks to help us build and manage agents. You will help design and implement these frameworks, working closely with technical and non-technical partners. A special focus for this role will be on ensuring our data platforms (Looker and Snowflake) are AI ready and that agents can safely and reliably access our structured data.

You will also take ownership of Machine Learning initiatives within the Revenue organization. This includes building Deal Health models and automating revenue forecasting using techniques such as Logistic Regression, Random Forests, and XGBoost. You will also build pipelines to monitor model performance, tracking key metrics such as precision at K and F1 score. 

• Lead Predictive Modeling and Machine Learning projects, particularly within our Revenue organization but potentially expanding to other divisions such as Product and Engineering
• Work with the Head of Data Science to formulate and evaluate a framework for incorporating Generative AI into our data platform
• Design and implement a series of reusable tools for building and deploying agents at Cockroach Labs
• Work with internal partners to identify and execute a series of high priority AI workflows and agents

In your first month, you will go through the Cockroach Labs onboarding process and start to build relationships with stakeholders across the company. You will understand our current data architecture and the internal and external resources we use to maintain it.

After 30 days, you will have a grasp on the major questions related to AI and ML that the team needs to answer. You will also understand the current state of AI and ML projects at Cockroach Labs and work with the Head of Data Science to identify promising future opportunities.

After 90 days, you will be fully integrated into the team. You will be part of the major processes that support the broader Revenue organization, and will start to play a larger role in driving the roadmap for Machine Learning and AI at Cockroach Labs.

• 5+ years of data science, machine learning, and advanced analytics experience in high velocity, high-growth companies
• Experience collaborating with and understanding the needs of stakeholders from a variety of business functions 
• Strong coding skills in at least one general-purpose language, preferably Python, and familiarity with software engineering principles around testing, code reviews, and deployment.
• Proficient in data analysis using tools like Python, R, and SQL
• BS, MS or Ph.D. in quantitative fields (e.g., Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Physics, Economics, Operations Research)

Reporting to David Welgus, Senior Manager of Data Science

David Welgus leads our data science efforts at Cockroach Labs. He is responsible for our Revenue and Marketing data strategy and is passionate about building and scaling businesses with data. Before joining Cockroach Labs, David was a Data Science Manager at Capital One, leading a data science team focused on marketing optimization and A/B testing.  When not at work, he enjoys watching Netflix, seeing live music, and reading.
