The Role

Job Description:

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for processing source data/documents while performing routine, repetitive, and detail-oriented accounting, payroll, accounts payable, account receivable, revenue cycle, and reimbursement (hereafter, and collectively referred to as 'accounting') tasks. Under general supervision, this position performs accounting duties and responsibilities listed. **Position purpose to be adjusted for area of position responsibility**

This position is responsible for timely and accurate processing of payments to Intermountain's suppliers for goods and services and ensures that all payments are processed in compliance with Intermountain policies and procedures. This position provides excellent customer service, has thorough understanding of Intermountain?s payable systems, and is a resource in assisting Intermountain's managers to ensure their suppliers are paid accurately and on time.

  • Independently problem solves within an accounting application and/or defined problems set.
  • Performs a variety of calculations, verifications, postings, and summarizations of tasks in maintaining assigned segments of financial records.
  • Performs routine to moderately complex repetitive tasks in recording day-to-day transactions related to reconciliations, systems, and reports.
  • Researches and resolves issues and errors and notifies appropriate personnel to prevent future occurrences.
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal colleagues and external customers with timely and professional phone calls and emails.
  • Demonstrates ownership and accountability by taking responsibility for tasks and exemplifies dependable attendance.
  • Manages volume of work to meet required deadlines.
  • Understands the financial, policy, and regulatory statement implication of various subsidiary systems.
  • Understands and appropriately interprets Intermountain policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for customer training and operations for a specific accounting application or process.
  • Uses judgement in interpreting and analyzing financial information, recording day-to-day transactions, and preparing reports for customers.
  • Serves as a resource person to internal and external customers in their assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinates and may perform a full range of clerical functions including customer service duties, mail distribution, calendar and meeting management, preparing documents, etc.
  • Has knowledge and follows department procedures and logistics associated with the assigned role.

Accounts Receivable Essentials:

  • Researches and helps resolve issues with overpayments to our Providers and members
  • Ability to communicate professionally with both internal and external clients.
  • Maintains and builds good working relationships with other areas to resolve payment issues
  • Ability to track calls and follow up with internal and external clients
  • Coordinates with other team members to meet or exceed monthly goals on collection of overpayments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A college student in accounting, finance, or business related field (economics, statistics, and mathematics). Education must be obtained at an accredited institution. Education will be verified. - Or - Two years of accounting experience such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reimbursement, or accounting.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated basic keyboarding and 10-Key by touch.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer experience using word processing, spreadsheet, internet and e-mail, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of college-level finance and/or accounting courses,
  • Specialized knowledge of one or more financial applications
  • Experience demonstrating a working knowledge of accounting procedures such as accounting reconciliation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, or payroll, Demonstrated ability and willingness to assume more complex assignments as demonstrated by an increase in previous work responsibilities
  • Exhibit the following characteristics: resource person, trainer, seeks additional tasks.
  • Accounts Payable Preferred: Experience with PeopleSoft financial applications.
  • Payroll Preferred: Specialized knowledge of one or more payroll or accounting applications.
  • Familiarity with or experience in revenue cycle and/or cash posting
  • Specific experience with Intermountain software systems or applications, such as AS400, Cerner, Cirius Remittance Manager
  • Basic understanding of Medicare and Medicaid programs.
  • Cash Posting Preferred: 1) Experience in coordinating projects
  • Experience with and specialized knowledge in one or more financial applications. (Such as PeopleSoft, PaymentNet, Access Online, Cerner, and Cirius Remit Manager).
     

Physical Requirements:

  • Interact with others requiring the employee to communicate information.
  • Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • See and read computer monitors and documents.
  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$19.27 - $29.33
