About the Role & Team
The team at Disney Signature Experiences is seeking an experienced and energetic Technical Project Manager. A large portion of the role will be providing technical project health assessment, including leading the performance to budget, scope and timeline for an assigned list of projects. This position also will provide direct leadership and influence with technical peers, facilitating all stages of the project lifecycle through initiation of the concept to delivery.
This is a Project Hire/Internal Assignment and hybrid role that sits primarily in Florida within the Disney Cruise Line team.
What You'll Do:
- Performs all other responsibilities of a Project Manager at a proficient level, plus: Identifies project risks; analyzes and communicates prioritized mitigation plans to partners
- Understands most project domain components, including architecture, tools and deployment practices that development team is employing
- Accountable for driving execution and delivery of technical programs from start to finish
- Develops a program plan comprised of parallel projects and multiple project managers that collectively produce work that has significant business impact
- Monitors & adjusts program plan to respond to unplanned changes, ensuring program is progressing to meet business goals
- Creates governance practices and provides senior-level leadership oversight and control for the program
- Implements fiscal practices and controls, authorizing, recording, and reporting on program expenditures & return on investment
- Develops infrastructure needed to support the program
- Drive Program accountability to meet Tech & Digital strategic objectives
- Facilitate evaluation and alignment on the delivery of rationalized and prioritized S/VP program input to forecasts in alignment with key parameters (financial targets, ramp-up plans, project priorities, etc.)
- Identify and taking a proactive approach to problem-solving; share reporting & insights to make actionable recommendations to Executives on behalf of the team.
- Produce monthly expense and capital forecasts
- Research and provide cause of change for variances; deliver monthly/quarterly financial updates.
- Maintain a continuous view of resource demand and capacity across the program; proactively partner with Tech & Digital leadership to plan for leveled resource allocation across development and sustainment activities.
- Champion & evolve partnerships and communication with leaders, Finance, and other related teams to collaborate across the programs for results.
- Collaborate and evangelize to support standard processes & reporting that increase adoption and drive decisions, while finding opportunities to continuously improve.
- Drive solutions for process improvements, standardization, and efficiency within the organization.
- Own accurate inputs within the PPM system/tool to ensure accurate data for program and partnering teams.
- Indirectly Develop effective partnerships and collaborate with peers across departments.
- Identify and drive technology and business integration opportunities and ensure all impacted partners interact together (e.g., leading regular executive forums)
- Create executive-level content for presentation in various Business, Tech & Digital, and/or leadership forums, where our strategies and cost management tactics are on display
- Own budgets alongside project teams and leaders for allocation and management of project costs, including personnel, budget, and equipment, to support program execution.
- Identify and assess potential risks to the program's success and implement strategies to mitigate and lead those risks.
- Facilitate collaboration among squad leaders of Tech, Product, and Design and businesses involved in the program to ensure smooth execution and alignment.
- Supervise and measure the progress of program activities against established timelines and turning points; maintain accurate tracking related to capital funding & delivery, sustainment, and other metrics.
- Identify and address issues that arise during program execution and implement solutions to keep the program on track.
- Ensure that program results meet the required quality standards and are aligned with expectations outlined within our financial documents (Capital Authorization Request or "CAR", scope memo, EFC memo, etc.).
- Provide regular updates to partners through clear and effective communication, and a clear point of view; prepare reports that summarize program status, accomplishments, and challenges.
- Establish & maintain an area's Technology and Digital roadmap, partnering with the area leaders; engage with a diverse set of team members and executive partners to gain an understanding of business strategies and align with Technology solutions.
- Conduct research to understand where process improvements, other tools/methods, or changes could supercharge Portfolio & Program Strategy. Leverage domain expertise to advise on potential solutions.
- Assist the PMO team and the broader T&D delivery teams through training, coaching, and mentorship.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience working with technical teams, including measuring and supervising stages throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Have experience with industry-standard project management tools such as MyPPM, JIRA, Confluence or equivalent.
- Can effectively lead project tracking and reporting at all levels within the company.
- Consistently evaluating processes and seeking for ways to improve at every iteration.
- Have crucial soft skills including technical communication, partnership, collaboration, flexibility, problem-solving, critical thinking, & conflict resolution.
- Learn quickly and enthusiastically, particularly about technical systems and issues.
- Has sophisticated mathematical skills including projection modeling, statistical measurements and supporting capabilities to rapidly acquire and interpret project management data and metrics.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, business or equivalent and 5+ years of related work experience; preferably 3+ of those years in the software development industry.
- Or Master's Degree in computer science, business or equivalent and 3+ years of related work experience; preferably 3+ of those years in the software development industry.
